I had the pleasure of working with two very talented people yesterday, Gareth Hains and Becky Blissitt. Gareth is a member of the 2009 England Under 21 Karate Team for the 2009 Karate World Championships Morocco (under 78kg section), Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist and 2008 British National double Bronze Medalist 2008 amongst many other titles. He is also one of the leading practitioners of Kata and had the idea to show the similarity of some of the Kata moves to ballet. Our ballet dancer, Becky, trained at the Royal Academy and together on stage at the Riverhead Theatre, Louth they showed just how good they are.

I’ve got a load of images to edit but to get started here’s one of Gareth in full flight while Becky does her thing on point.

I keep saying that I am going to blog on a regular basis but as the majority of my blogs are about photo-shoots this presents a problem. The best time to talk about a shoot for me at least is just after the shoot, everything is still fresh in my mind and I’m full of enthusiasm for the results. In most cases I don’t have any images to show until the client has made their selection and I have subsequently edited them, this can be up to 3 or 4 weeks after the shoot. So, in future I am going to pick one shot from the shoot and edit it and post it on the blog within 48 hours of each shoot, the other images, usually about 20 for a portfolio shoot I’ll put up at a later time as a gallery with a few extra comments.

If you would like to know more about the technical aspects of the creation of any of the images I’m more than happy to share, just send me a message and I’ll do my best to explain things like lighting, post processing and even where some of the ideas came from.

I’m starting today with an image of an amazing model, Numb or Nusi if you use her nick-name. I worked with Nusi on a quick location shoot when I was in Edinburgh, she lives in Glasgow, we got some great shots but I was really keen to get her down to my studio for some dramatic headshots. I’m pleased to say she decided to make the trip last weekend and the results are exactly what I had in mind.

Here is the first image, make-up of course by my very talented wife, Helen. Lots more from this session to come but for now here is the first edit.

The lovely Leah travelled all the way from Gloucester and back in a day for a portfolio shoot. She brought some interesting outfits and wanted to do a Dita Von Tees styled shoot amongst other things. This girl has amazing stamina, a 4 hour drive followed by an 8 hour shoot and then another 4 hour drive. You can see more of Leah on her own website but here are a couple from our shoot.
