I love it when I am given a free rein when I do family portraits. Last Sunday I was asked to shoot two families and too make them look a bit different. The mums are sisters, you might even recognise Holly, she played the part of Edison in the 80s children’s TV program Supergran. We shot some in the garden and then moved into the studio. I’ll be posting the studio shots in a few days but here are a couple of the garden shots, both are lit with a couple of small strobes.  With the group of 4 I was aiming to make it look like an advertising shot, in fact Rob, Holly’s husband said they looked like an advert for a family who had just got a mortgage they couldn’t afford!

The two familes all tied up, backlit by the mid morning sun and two small strobe either side of the camera to fill the face shadows, I was on top of a 6′ ladder shooting with an 18mm lens on my Nikon D2x.
